WOMEN'S LACROSSE CRACKS TOP 20; GLAVIN NAMED NATIONAL PLAYER OF WEEK

3.29.05 | Women's Lacrosse

PHILADELPHIA -- Fresh off an upset win at second-ranked Penn State (6-5) and an incredible come-from-behind home win over Old Dominion (13-12, OT), first-year head coach Jenny Ulehla's Temple University women's lacrosse team earned its first national ranking in three seasons, placing 19th in the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association Poll (IWLCA) released on March 28.  The Owls (3-2), who last appeared in the Top 20 in the final regular season poll of the 2002 campaign (#19), also garnered an individual honor as sophomore attack Patty Glavin was named the IWLCA Division I National Player of Week.

Glavin led the Owls to their win at Penn State on March 22, tallying three goals, including the game-winner, to lead the squad to victory.  She then came back to score four goals and dish one assist in Temple's win over ODU Saturday (3/26).  Glavin, who missed the entire 2004 season due to injury, tallied twice in the final two minutes of play against the Monarchs to help the Cherry and White rally from an 11-8 deficit.  She then tallied the go-ahead goal in the overtime period.

Ulehla, who posted a 90-56 record at James Madison (1995-2002) prior to her arrival at Temple is no stranger to the national spotlight.  At JMU, she guided the Dukes to six NCAA Tournaments and her team advanced to the NCAA Final Four in 2000.

The four-time defending Atlantic 10 Conference champion Owls open conference play Wednesday with a home match against La Salle (4:00 p.m.).
