AMBLER, PA -- Senior shortstop Aida Esquer homered and drove in three runs to help lift Temple to a 7-4 win over visiting Saint Francis (NY) Thursday afternoon at Ambler Softball Field. Freshman pitcher Jen Nacianceno (1-5) notch her first career win, hurling five innings and allowing two earned runs.
Esquer, who leads the Owls with 10 RBI, opened the scoring with a two-out solo homer to left, her second of the season, in the bottom of the first. The Terriers, winless on the year (0-12), then roped consecutive doubles in the third to take a brief 2-1 lead. The Owls followed that by batting around in the bottom half of the inning, scoring five runs to retake the lead, 6-2. Esquer had an RBI single through the left side of the infield and stole a base in the frame.
Saint Francis scored two unearned runs off Nacianceno in the fifth to cut the lead to 6-4, before sophomore Richelle Villescas (1 hit, 2 Ks) came in for the final two innings to record her first save of the season.
Melissa McCartney and Lauren Evans each had two hits on the day for the Cherry and White, while Nicole Adisano had three hits and scored twice to lead the Terriers.
Temple (10-17) hosts Rider Friday (4:00 p.m.) in a single game at Ambler.
