TAMPA, FL -- The Temple softball team shut out Chattanooga Friday in the Louisville Slugger Tournament, 3-0, at USF Field.  With the win, the Owls improved their record to 4-8, while Chattanooga falls to 10-9.  The winning pitcher was Richelle Villescas (4-7), who pitched a complete game while only allowing six hits.

All of Temple's scoring came in the third inning.  Senior infielder Melissa McCartney reached base on an error and stole second.  Brittany Burks singled to drive in McCartney and advanced to third on another error by the Mocs.  Brandie Mora singled and brought home Burks.  Mora then stole second and reached third on yet another error.   Laura Gutscher doubled which brought around Mora. When the third out was made, Temple had totaled three hits and three runs.

Villescas allowed six hits and struck out four while notching her first shutout of the season and ninth of her career.

Rocci Pignoli, in his eighth season as Temple head coach, leads the Cherry and White into action again Saturday, March 5th against Michigan in the second game of the Tournament.
