OWLS MAKE NEW COACH A WINNER IN HER HOME DEBUT

PHILADELPHIA -- The Temple women's lacrosse team made the home debut of first year head coach Jennifer Ulelha a successful one with a 10-9 win over visiting Colgate Saturday afternoon at Geasey Field.  The Owls are now 1-1 on the season with their next game a home contest against Penn on March 16.

 

Sophomore Allison Frengs led the way for the Cherry and White with four goals, including the deciding 10th tally.  That goal put the Owls on top 10-7 with 3:53 to play.  Junior Kelly Winning, who led Colgate with four goals, scored with three minutes remaining to make, 10-8.  Sophomore Megan Janson made it 10-9 with her second goal of the game 1ith 1:23 on the clock.  Temple's defense, led by senior goalkeeper Megan McLouth (21 saves), held on for the victory.

 

Colgate had jumped out to an early 2-0 lead on goals by junior Katie McVeigh.  The Owls recovered with a five unanswered goals over a 10-minute stretch to make it 5-2 with 11:57 to play.  Temple never trailed the remainder of the contest.

 

Besides Frengs, junior Patty Galvin added two goals and an assist while sophomores Johna Capaldo and Casey Cech scored twice.

 

Junior goalkeeper Sue Bielamowicz had 16 saves for Colgate (2-1).
