OWLS TOP HAWKS, 6-1, IN WOMEN'S TENNIS
4.1.05 | Women's Tennis
PHILADELPHIA -- The Temple women's tennis team overcame the absence of its number one player, junior Ana Maslesa, to defeat visiting Saint Joseph's, 6-1, at the TU Pavilion Friday afternoon. The Owls improved to 4-8 on the season while the Hawks are now 0-1 on the spring campaign.
Sophomore Yuri Kurashima played at the number one slot in place of Maslesa, who missed the match due to injury. Kurashima swept SJU's Nicole Morrison in straight sets, 6-0, 6-1, to pace the Owls. Jennifer Goeta, Laura Seiverling and Sharanya Pattabi also won straight set matches at second, third and fourth singles, respectively. At fifth singles Temple's Jackie Sy played an eight-game pro set since the result of the match was already decided, and won easily, 8-1. Temple defaulted at sixth singles for the SJU's lone point.
Temple won all three doubles matches, taking the first and third positions, 8-0.
The Owls will take on Xavier tomorrow at the Arthur Ashe Tennis Complex at 1:00 p.m.
