LEADER NETS FIVE TO GIVE TEMPLE 16-7 WIN OVER LAFAYETTE

4.13.05 | Women's Lacrosse

EASTON, PA- Corey Leader scored five goals, including three in a span of three minutes in the first half, to lead Temple, 16-7, over Lafayette on Wednesday afternoon.  Of the seven shots that Leader attempted, five found the back of the net and one hit the post.  Temple improves to 6-4 on the season, while the Leopards, who have failed to win a game thus far this season, fall to 0-9.  The game will be televised on tape-delay on College Sports Television (CSTV) on Friday, April 15 at 3 p.m.

Berkley Summerlin began the scoring for Temple with an unassisted goal at 25:36.  Owl leading scorer Allison Frengs made it 2-0 with her 26th goal of the season at 22:04.  Samantha Ziegler finally got the Leopards on the board at 19:24 after taking a pass from Diana Crai, making the score 2-1.  Temple found that score too close for comfort however, and netted five straight goals, including three from Leader, to take a 7-1 lead by the 12 and a half minute mark.  Leader came off the bench and made it 3-1 with an unassisted tally at 18:09.  The junior kept applying offensive pressure, which allowed her to gain a free position shot and score again at 16:58.  Leader wrapped up her scoring barrage with an unassisted tally at 14:12.  Katie Yori joined in the fun and made it a 6-1 game at 13:41.  Frengs and Johna Capaldo team to score the Owl's seventh goal at 12:39.  Standing at the top of the 12 meter, Frengs found a cutting Capaldo who fired a shot into the upper right hand corner of the cage.  Lafayette's Madalyn Booth went on a little offensive run of her own, scoring three unassisted goals to end the half for the Leopards.  Booth netted her 13th goal of the season at 9:20 to end the Temple scoring run but Frengs found Patty Glavin three minutes later to answer.  Booth answered with a goal of her own at 2:16 but Temple wasn't finished.  Whitney Richards found Casey Cech at 1:55 to give TU a nine goal total at the half.  Booth finished the half with the Leopard's fourth goal with 29 seconds remaining.

Temple opened the second half with a five goal run to take a 14-4 lead with just over 17 minutes to go in the game.  Leader, Yori and Glavin all scored during that 12 minute span.  Ziegler, assisted by Booth, ended the game's running clock at 15:06 but Summerlin and Casey Cech put Temple back up by 10 (15-5) at 9:23.  Lafayette continued to fight, scoring two more but Megan Condon netted an insurance goal in the final minutes to ensure the 16-7 win.

Megan McLouth earned just one save in the win, while Lafayette goaltender Jaclyn Kushner garnered eight saves.

Temple returns home to take on A-10 opponent Richmond on Friday, April 15 at 3 p.m.
