#17 WOMEN'S LACROSSE FALLS 8-6 TO RICHMOND

4.15.05 | Women's Lacrosse

PHILADELPHIA- In just the third time since joining the Atlantic 10 for lacrosse, the Temple women's lacrosse team fell, 8-6 to conference foe University of Richmond on Friday afternoon at Geasey Field.  The Owls, who have posted a 35-3 record in six years of A-10 play, attempted to spark a second-half comeback after trailing 4-2 at halftime but simply ran out of time.  Temple falls to 6-5 on the season, 2-1 in Conference play, while the Spiders improve to 4-7 overall and 3-1 in the A-10

Allison Nuzzi gave Richmond control of the first half, earning assists on three of the Spiders' four goals.  Nuzzi found Ashley Friend for Richmond's first goal at 24:55.  Megan Condon scored the equalizer just one minute later unassisted at 23:52.  The one-one draw stood for most of the half, as neither team could seem to find the back of the net.  Caroline McGuire put UR up one after taking a pass from Nuzzi at 14:52.  Nuzzi fired a pass to Erin Kennedy a minute later to make it 3-1 Richmond.  Temple finally struck again with 1:29 left to go in the half.  Standing atop the 12 meter, Whitney Richards found a cutting Allison Frengs to make it 3-2.  Richmond was finished however, as Claire Cunniff netted a fourth goal with 14 seconds remaining to make it 4-2 at the half.

Nuzzi scored a goal of her own to begin the second half but Temple answered just 20 seconds later.  Nicole Cataldo found Patty Glavin who fired a shot into the upper right-hand corner of the goal to make it 5-3 at 24:28.  The Spiders went on to score two unanswered tallies to make it 7-3 with 16:23 remaining but Temple began to fight back, scoring three goals to Richmond's one down the stretch.  The comeback proved to be too late, however, and the Spiders earned their first win ever over the Owls.  Casey Cech, Corey Leader and Johna Capaldo all scored goals to try and spark the TU comeback.

Megan McLouth totaled eight saves in goal, while Jackie Swansburg stopped 11 shots.

Next up for Temple is a trip to Delaware for a non-conference match-up against the Blue Hens on Wednesday, April 20 at 7:00 p.m.
