ODU TOPS TEMPLE IN REGULAR SEASON FINALE, 4-3
4.16.05 | Women's Tennis
NORFOLK, VA - The Temple women's tennis team closed out its 2005 regular season with a 4-3 defeat at the hands of host Old Dominion Saturday afternoon. The loss drops the Owls to 4-10 under first year coach Traci Green. The Cherry and White head to College Park, MD next weekend to take part in the Atlantic 10 Championships (April 22-24).
The afternoon started with the Lady Monarchs taking the doubles points despite having to default at No. 3 slot. The duo of Kerstin Endlich and Fernanda Luiz upended Temple's Ana Maslesea and Yuri Kurashima, 8-5, at No. 1 doubles, while ODU's Barbara Kerner and Barbara Costa defeated the Owls' Laura Seiverling and Sharanya Pattabi in a close 9-8 match at No. 2 doubles.
Maslesa and Pattabi recorded the lone points for the Cherry and White with wins at first and fifth singles, respectively. The Owls also posted a point by virtue of ODU defaulting at sixth singles. Maslesa edged Endich in a tight 7-5, 7-6 match while Pattabi fought off Linda Garder in a three-setter, 7-5, 4-6, 6-3. Costa squeaked by Yurashima in a three-set match at second singles, 6-3, 3-6, 6-3, in what proved to be the difference.
