NEWARK, DE - It was a homecoming of sorts for both Delaware Head Coach Kim Ciarrocca and the Temple women's lacrosse team. The team met their former head coach on the University of Delaware's campus on Wednesday evening in what promised to be a emotional game. Ciarrocca and her #17 Blue Hens, ironically the ranking that was held by the Owls last week, jumped out to an early lead and never looked back en route to a 14-7 victory and handing the Owls their third straight loss. Temple falls to 6-6, while Delaware improves to 8-5.
Allison Frengs scored four goals and later added an assist, while Casey Cech chipped in with one goal and one assist. Corey Leader and Berkeley Summerlin added tallies for the grand total of seven goals. Megan McLouth and Caitlin Gregory combined to make 11 saves in net for the Owls.
Delaware jumped out to the early lead in this one, as the Blue Hens found the back of the net for three quick scores before Temple could get on the board. The Blue Hens held a 6-2 lead when Frengs tried to bring Temple back into this one almost by herself. The Owls scored three straight goals from 16:43 to 10:39 to cut the Blue Hen lead to 6-5 and Frengs had two of those goals. Delaware pushed it lead to 8-5 before settling for the 8-6 lead at the half.
Delaware responded to open the second half by scoring four unanswered goals to push their lead to 12-6. Temple finally got on the scoreboard at 11:16 of the second half as Frengs scored her fourth goal of the game but Delaware closed out the victory with two goals in the final 10 minutes to secure the win.
Delaware received three goals from senior Becky Rausa, Casey McCrudden, Laura Miller and sophomore Kaite Muth each scored two goals apiece. McCrudden, Rausa, and Miller all added an assist on the night while junior Megan Hager dished out two helpers on the night to go along with her goal. Junior Patrice Hughes made 12 saves in net.
Temple returns to conference play this weekend when it goes on a two-game road trip to Duquesne and St. Bonaventure. The Owls take on the first-place Dukes on Friday at 3:00 p.m. and then travel to meet the Bonnies on Sunday at noon.
