TOP-SEED UMASS DOWNS TEMPLE, 4-0, IN SEMIFINALS OF A-10 WOMEN'S TENNIS CHAMPIONSHIPS

COLLEGE PARK, MD -- Top-seed Massachusetts ended Temple's bid for a second Atlantic 10 Conference women's tennis title in the last three years with a 4-0 win over the fourth-seeded Owls in the semifinals of the 2005 Atlantic 10 Conference Women's Tennis Championships Saturday afternoon.  The Cherry and White fall to 5-11 on the season and will play third-seed Rhode Island Sunday (11:000 a.m.) for third place in the conference.  The Minutewomen advance to the championship match against second-seed Xavier.

 

Junior Ana Maslesa and sophomore Yuri Kurashima teamed for an 8-3 win at first doubles, the Owls' lone bright spot on the day.  The Owls; would lose the doubles point and Kurashima later fell at second singles, one of three TU singles losses. 

 

Maslesa led at first singles, 6-3, 3-2, over UMass' Michele Spiess before the match was called.  Junior Laura Seiverling and freshman Sharanya Pattabi led at fifth and sixth singles for Temple as well when the match was halted.
