WOMEN'S TENNIS ENDS SEASON WITH A 4-3 LOSS TO XAVIER AT A-10 CHAMPIONSHIPS

COLLEGE PARK, MD -- The Temple women's tennis season came to an end Sunday afternoon at the 2005 Atlantic 10 Championships as the Owls dropped a heart-breaking 4-3 loss to Xavier in the third place match. Temple, the fourth-seed, finished fourth and ended the 2005 campaign under first year coach Traci Green with a 5-12 record.
Xavier was strong at the top of its lineup, taking the first three singles positions. That combined with a win at the doubles point gave the Musketeers the match.
Sophomore Jennifer Goeta,junior Laura Seiverling and freshman Sharanya Pattabi posted wins for the Cherry and White, taking the fourth, fifth and sixth singles matches, respectively. Junior Ana Maslesa and sophomore Yuri Kurashima won at first doubles by the score of 9-7, but the Owls dropped the second and third doubles matches to relinquish the point.
Kurashima lost a close second singles match to Xavier's Kristin Clary, 7-6 (5), 6-2. Senior Lauren Verrall, playing in her final collegiate match, went three sets before falling to Stephanie Bauer, 6-2, 3-6, 6-2.
Second-seed Richmond upset top-seed UMass, 5-1, to take the A-10 title.
