4.6.05 | Football
PHILADELPHIA - Temple senior Nehemiah Ingram, a forward on the men's basketball team, has walked-on to the football team as a defensive lineman. Ingram first practiced with the Owl gridders on Friday, April 1 and participated in his first contact session on Monday, April 4.
Ingram (6-8, 275) played in 19 games on the hardwood this past season, averaging 4.3 minutes, 1.1 rebounds and 0.7 points-per-game under head coach John Chaney. As a first-year junior in 2003-04, he played in 29 contests (five starts) and averaged 13.9 minutes, 2.9 rebounds and 1.9 points per-game.
A criminal justice major, the Milledgeville, Ga. native is on-track to graduate and, in doing so, will gain an additional season of eligibility for the 2005-06 academic year.
Ingram would be the fourth student-athlete to play both football and basketball during the Chaney Era. James Harris played in four games at forward during the 1988-89 season before earning four varsity football letters as a defensive end/linebacker from 1988 to 1991. James Spears played in 34 games (six starts) in 1990-91 and four contests during the 1991-92 campaign at forward prior to earning a varsity football letter as a defensive end in 1993. Lamond Adams played three seasons on the hardwood (1994-95 to 1996-97) at guard and was a four-year starter on the gridiron at cornerback from 1995-98.
Ingram last played competitive football at Baldwin High School in Milledgeville, where he was a junior varsity tight end as a ninth grader.
