VILLESCAS NOTCHES WIN #10 IN LEADING TEMPLE TO 2-1 WIN OVER PRINCETON

4.6.05 | Softball

AMBLER, PA -- Sophomore pitcher Richelle Villescas allowed just one run, a solo homer to lead off the game by Lindsay Motal, and senior catcher Laura Gutscher blasted her third round-tripper of the season to lead host Temple to a 2-1 win over Ivy League power Princeton Wednesday afternoon at Ambler Softball Field.  The Owls improve to 11-18 with the victory while the Tigers fall to 19-8.

Motal launched her first homer of the season to put Princeton in front 1-0 in the first inning.  It would be one of just five hits allowed by Villescas, who evened her record at 10-10.

Gutscher tied the game for the Owls in the bottom of the second with a led-off homer to straightaway center.  Temple scored the game-winner in the fourth as sophomore first baseman Adrienne Repsher lined a double to left that scored freshman Amanda Carver.  Carver had reached base via an error to start the frame.

Princeton threatened in the sixth, placing runners at second and third before Erin Snyder lined out to shortstop Aida Esquer to the end the inning.

Calli Varner (2-1) took the loss for the Tigers, allowing just four hits and one unearned run.

Temple next plays at Penn in a single game on Thursday (4:00 p.m.).
