4.8.05 | Women's Lacrosse

PHILADELPHIA-Allison Frengs gave a season-best performance, netting six goals and earning two assists, to lead the 16th-ranked Temple women's lacrosse team 14-10 over Saint Joseph's on Friday night at the Hawks' Finnesey Field.  Temple, who is currently 2-0 in the Atlantic 10, goes into Sunday's contest against  #5 Virginia with a 4-3 overall record.  St. Joe's falls to 3-4 on the season, 0-1 in Conference play.

Kerry O'Connell and Lindsey Brown teamed to score the game's first two goals, giving the Hawks a 2-0 lead just five minutes into the game.  The lead would be shortlived, however, as the Owls turned up the heat and scored six unanswered goals to take a 6-2 lead by the 12 minute mark.  Johna Capaldo broke SJU's scoring run after taking a feed from Frengs at 24:21.  Frengs went on to net the next three goals in a span of five minutes, with assists coming from Berkley Summerlin and Megan Condon.  Kelly Yemm added one more before Frengs struck again at 11:54.  The Hawks netted two goals, seperated by just 12 seconds to end the Temple scoring barrage and cut the Owls' lead to two goals (4-6).  Saint Joe's comeback attempt was stopped short, however, as Temple went on to score three more goals to end the half with a 9-4 TU advantage.  Corey Leader scored unassisted at 7:41 and five minutes later fed a ball to Casey Cech for Temple's eighth goal.  Katie Yori scored the half's final tally with just four seconds remaining.

Frengs began the half with a goal to put Temple in double digits but the period belonged to the Hawks, who scored six goals to Temple's five.  Freshman Lindsay McCool earned the next two draw controls and sprinted down the field to score two quick unassisted goals and make it 10-6. Kerry O'Connell got SJU within three goals at 20:23 but Whitney Richards made it a four-goal game again with an unassisted goal at 18:44.  The rest for Temple's defense was a brief one as Saint Joe's began to close in on the Owls.  Brown and Jenny Egan scored two more, givng Temple a slight 11-9 advantage.  Yori, Frengs and Patty Glavin forced calls in the eight meter down the stretch to pull out the win for Temple.  All three connected on free position attempts.

TU goalie Megan McLouth earned four saves on the day, while SJU's Courtney Huff kept her team in the game with 12 saves.
