RICHMOND, Va.-Fourth seeded Richmond upset the #1 seeded Temple Owls, 11-10, in the semifinal round of the Atlantic 10 Tournament on Friday night on Richmond's home field.  This is the first time in TU women's lacrosse history that the Owls have fallen in the opening round of the tournament.  Temple finishes the 2005 season with a 10-7 overall record and a 6-1 record in Conference play, while the Spiders improve to 8-7 overall and 5-2 in A-10 play.

Patty Glavin, Berkley Summerlin, Corey Leader and Casey Cech all netted two goals for the Owls, while Whitney Richards led all point earners with three assists and one goal.  Allison Frengs contributed one goal in the losing effort.

Caroline McGuire and Ashley Friend scored five goals each to lead Richmond to its first A-10 final.

Leader struck early in the first half with back-to-back goals to put Temple off to a 2-0 start.  Richmond answered with two straight goals to make the game tied at 20:22.  Friend scored on a free position attempt at 20:38 and McGuire got the ball off the draw and sprinted down for an unassisted goal 16 seconds later.Summerlin put the Owls back on top 4-2, scoring her back-to-back unassisted goals at 17:19 and 13:03. Kristin Habrict answered with a goal to cut the differential to two but Glavin was fouled in the eight-meter and converted a free position shot at 9:34 to put Temple back up two goals.  The teams traded goals for the remainder of the half, with Richmond scoring with 20 seconds to go, making the score 6-5 at the half.

Friend tied the game 6-6 early in the second half but Temple responded with a three goal run, giving them a three goal cushion at 19:22.  Frengs cradled around the goal and found the back of the net at 23:40, while Richards stood at the top of the arc to feed Glavin and Cech's subsequent goals at 21:21 and 19:22, respectively.  Just when it seemed Temple would be making its eighth straight trip to the A-10 final, the Spiders answered with a three goal run of their own, tying the game at nine with 9:06 remaining.  Richards broke the tie to put Temple up 10-9 at 8:02 but McGuire scored two goals down the stretch to give Richmond the win.  McGuire's last goal came with 17 seconds to go, after the Spiders used a stalling tactic for three minutes, giving Temple little time to come back and send the game into overtime.

Megan McLouth earned one save on the day, while Jackie Swansberg tallied four.
