PHILADELPHIA -- The Temple University Department of Athletics today announced that Sherryta Freeman has been named Assistant Athletic Director for Compliance. Freeman comes to Temple after serving as Assistant Athletic Director of Compliance at Dartmouth College since January, 2004.
"We are pleased to have someone of Sherryta's expertise join our athletic staff," stated Director of Athletics Bill Bradshaw. "She possesses a strong working knowledge of conference and NCAA legislation, and as a former student-athlete will be able to relay this knowledge to the Temple athletic community."
At Temple, Freeman will oversee all aspects of the athletic department's compliance efforts for its 24 sports and over 500 student-athletes with conference and NCAA rules and regulations. She will work to educate coaches, administrators and student-athletes in regards to new rules and regulations, as well as assist with processing NCAA and conference waivers on behalf of student-athletes.
The Hillside, N.J. native began her intercollegiate athletic career in July, 2001 as a public information assistant in the Ivy League Office. She left that position to pursue her master's degree in sports management at the University of Massachusetts, completing her coursework in May 2003. She then joined the Dartmouth athletic staff in July 2003 as an Assistant to Intercollegiate Programs with an emphasis on compliance and event management. She was elevated six months later to Assistant Athletic Director.
Freeman earned a bachelor's degree in environmental studies from Dartmouth in 2001, where she was a member of two women's basketball NCAA Tournament teams as a student-athlete.
