AMBLER, PA -- Drexel's Noel Niederkorn scored just before intermission, putting home a rebound off a direct kick, to lead the Dragons to a 1-0 win over Temple in the Owls home opener Wednesday at Ambler Field.

The Owls played perhaps their best contest of the year, holding their own with their city-rivals throughout the contest.  The teams each recorded 10 shots in the game.  Nine of Temple's shots were on goal, but Dragon keeper Kaitlin Bond was up to the challenge, making all nine saves to post the shutout.

Drexel's goal was initiated by a direct kick just outside the box.  Sherriann Steadman took the kick and hit the left post. The rebound came out to Niederkron who sent it past Owl keeper Tiffany Kasunich for the game-winner.

Kasunich posted two saves while playing a strong game in goal for Temple.

The Owls (0-5) next play at Delaware State on Sunday (2:00 p.m.).  Drexel improves to 4-2.
