WOMEN'S SOCCER SHUTS OUT DELAWARE STATE, 5-0

DOVER, DE- It took the Temple women's soccer team awhile to get its offense on the right track, but when the Owls got going they did it in style.  Temple scored it first goal of the season and then tacked on an additional four more in posting its first win of the season, an impressive 5-0 shutout of host Delaware State Sunday afternoon.

 

Freshman Cori Gallagher scored her first two goals of her collegiate career and added an assist to lead the attack.   Sophomore Kaitlin Gavaghan opened the scoring with her first collegiate goal, heading the ball in off of Gallagher's corner kick at 10:14.  Gallagher netted the second goal of the game at 23:30 off of a feed from senior Kate Lamplugh, who dished two assists.  Gallagher found the net again in the 51st minute off an assist from freshman Jenna Rankin to give the Owls a 3-0 lead.

 

Freshman Katrina Lynch and sophomore Casey Zellers closed out the scoring, tallying their first collegiate goals as well. Freshman keeper Tiffany Kasunich recorded her first win and shutout.

 

The Owls (1-5) totally dominated play, out-shooting Delaware State (0-6), 23-1. Temple  next takes on Long Island in New York on September 23.
