VILLANOVA, PA -- The Temple women's tennis team opened up its 2005-06 season in style, defeating Villanova, 7-0, on Wednesday afternoon.  The Owls play next in the Cissie Leary Invitational, an individual tournament held at Penn this weekend.

The doubles matches were hotly contested with senior Ana Maslesa and junior Yuri Kurashima teamed at first doubles for a 8-6 win over Jaclyn Williamson and Candice Carlin.  Junior Jennifer Goeta and freshman Felicia Frazier took their match, 8-5, at the second slot while senior Laura Seiverling and sophomore Sharanya Pattabi edged Daniella Phillis and Leighann Reilly, 9-8.

Maslesa took her first singles match against Carlin, 6-4, 7-5, to set the tone.  Kurashima topped Reilly, 7-6, 6-1, at second singles for what would prove to be the deciding point. Goeta won at third singles, coming back after falling in the first set.  Seiverling, Pattabi and Frazier closed out singles play with straight set wins at fourth through sixth singles, respectively.
