PHILADELPHIA -- Senior Ana Maslesa and sophomore Yuri Kurashima led the Temple women's tennis team at the 2005 Cissie Leary Invitational held on the campus of the University of Pennsylvania this past weekend.  The Owls' top two players posted five wins over the three day tournament.

Maslesa, one of 16 seeded players at the tournament, won by default over Harvard's Lyly Cai Minh to open play on Friday.  She then defeated William & Mary's Lauren Cash, 6-3, 1-6, 1-0 (9-7), in a tiebreaker later the same day.  Top-seed Preethi Mukundan of Harvard ended Maslesa'a singles run on Saturday with a 6-0, 6-2 win.

Kurashima won her first singles match, downing Harvard's Cindy Chu, 3-6, 6-3, 1-0 (5), on Friday.  She then ran into the tourney's second seed, William & Mary's Megan Muth, and dropped that match, 6-0, 6-2.  Kurashima also lost a consolation singles match on Saturday.

Maslesa and Kurashima teamed up to win their first two doubles matches, topping Cleveland State's Sarah Galon and Abby Showalter, 8-3, and Harvard's Stephanie Schnitter and Eva Wang, 8-4.  Schnitter and Wang entered play as the fourth-seeded doubles pair.  The Temple duo ended their run Saturday with a 9-7 loss to another seeded duo, Marshall's Lynzee Kever and Shannon Brown.

Temple's second doubles team of Jennifer Goeta and Sharanya Pattabi dropped their two doubles matches at the tournament.

The Owls next compete Saturday, October 8 at Delaware (11:00 a.m.).
