PHILADELPHIA - Chris MacAulay has been named director of football operations at Temple University by head coach Al Golden. MacAulay arrives in Owl Country with a variety of experiences on his resume, including football recruiting assistant, business entrepreneur, football camp director, radio personality and public relations officer.
"Chris MacAulay is the perfect fit for the structure of our football organization here at Temple University," said Golden. "I did not want to hire an ex-football coach then train him how to operate a business. I wanted to run the finest operation possible that just happens to be in the football business. Chris MacAulay was the best candidate to realize this endeavor. He understands that football operations is not about reaching a fixed goal, it is continually adapting to the challenges of the day. Chris is intelligent, articulate, possesses exceptional aptitude for writing and holds a wide range of technical skills essential in elevating our overall operation past our competitors. He will be a great addition to our Temple football family."
MacAulay was most recently the General Manager of the Product Marketing division of SureClick Promotions, LLC, where his responsibilities included leading new product marketing and development, as well as driving the strategic vision and direction of the company.
Before joining SureClick, he served as Vice President and General Manager of Liberty Wireless, a division of InPhonic, Inc., located in Washington, D.C. The company went public in 2005 and is now trading on NASDAQ. He was part of the initial team that launched InPhonic's prepaid wireless service offering, Liberty Wireless, and played a central role in business development, product marketing, and operations.
MacAulay's entry into the sports world began at his alma mater, the University of Virginia, in June 1995. He managed football recruiting logistics, including prospect identification, visits, game day operations, and database and budget management, while also serving as camp director for Virginia's passing clinic and lineman school.
During MacAulay's time in Charlottesville, which lasted until October 2000, he founded The Peachtree Corporation, a bus company that provided transportation for over 10 summer camps. He worked as a radio personality in 1999 and 2000 co-hosting pre-game radio broadcasts for Cavalier football games on WINA (770 AM) and also served as a regular guest of TalkingHoops.com to discuss both ACC and NCAA basketball news.
From February, 1999 to September, 2000, MacAulay was a partner and managing producer of SportsWar.com. In the position, he integrated design, programming and content for a network of 30 independent college sports websites as a part of the start-up company's executive team.
A native of McLean, Virginia, MacAulay earned a bachelor's degree in English from Virginia in May, 1994. He is married to the former Heather Kauppi. The couple has a sixth month old son, Gray.
