Women's Tennis Reaches Out To The Community

PHILADELPHIA - The Temple Women's Tennis team hosted 45 children from Discovery Charter School in West Philadelphia on Friday, October 6 as part of the United States Tennis Association/Intercollegiate Tennis Association Community Tennis Program. The boys and girls from Discovery Charter School were ages 12-14.
"Our Temple University student-athletes understand the importance of community service, and this project, in particular, will halep to ultimately grow the game of tennis," Temple women's head tennis coach Traci Green said.
During their stay, the children went on a tour of campus, including the Temple athletic facilities. Temple women's tennis players answered questions about college life and being a student athlete. The children also participated in a tennis clinic in the Temple University Pavilion where they took part in various tennis drills and games run by the players and coaches. The students were also able to observe the owls practice.
"It was a real positive experience," added Green. "The students are excitied to come back in February to see a home match. Many students also expressed interest in taking tennis lessons and learning to play tennis."
