Clermont Falls In Singles Final At Newport News Invitational

HAMPTON ROADS, VA - Temple freshman Christine Clermont advanced to the finals of B Singles at the Newport News Invitational before falling in a hard-fought 7-5, 7-5 championship match to William & Mary's Magda Bresson Sunday afternoon.
Clermont posted straight set wins over Radford's Daniella Milano (6-0, 6-3), Delaware's Alexa Dragonette (6-2, 6-2), George Mason's Julie Moscato (6-3, 6-0) before winning a hard-fought semifinal against Old Dominion's Barbara Costa (6-3, 3-6, 1-0 (8)).
Senior Yuri Kurashima rebounded from a first round loss to win three straight matches and take the consolation final of the A flight. She posted a 9-8 (4) win over top-seeded Old Dominion's Charleen Haarhoff in the consolation final..
Kurashima teamed with freshman Radka Ferancova at A doubles, winning three matches to advance to the finals where they fell to top-seeded Charleen Haarhoff and Fernanda Luiz, 8-3.
The Owls next take the court Friday, October 20 at the ITA Regionals being held in Hanover. N.H..
