Ambler, Pa. - Wendy Halina netted a goal in the 56th minute to give the Temple women's soccer team a 1-0 win over the visiting St. Bonaventure Bonnies on Sunday afternoon at the Ambler Sports Complex. It was a fitting tribute for seniors Darlene Beamon, Trish Dalton, Kamille Edwards, Elena Hekimian and Stephanie Schafer, as Halina's goal gave Temple its only Atlantic 10 win of the season. The Owls finish with a 4-14 overall record and a 1-8 mark in A-10 play, while the Bonnies conclude their season with a 2-14-1 overall record and a 1-8 record in Conference play.
The Bonnies really put Liz Tarasevich to the test in the first half, firing eight shots to Temple's three. The senior goalie was able to stand her ground, however, making six stops and keeping the game scoreless throughout the period.
Temple came out a lot more aggressive in the second half and was able to turn the tables on St. Bonaventure. The Owls took 10 shots, slowly wearing down the Bonnie defense and goalie Lisa Eberhart. Charisma Wright made a lot of great runs to the goal throughout the game, but it was her run in the 56th minute that proved to be the most fruitful. Wright collected the ball at the 50-yard line and dribbled down the right sideline, dodging three Bonnie defenders, and found Halina cutting into the box. Eberhart stepped off her line and Halina chipped the ball into the upper center of the net for the 1-0 Temple advantage. St. Bonaventure desparately tried to score the equalizer but the Owl defense, anchored by sophomore Cori Gallagher, refused to budge.
Tiffany Kasunich was in goal for Temple in the second half and made one stop. Eberhart finished with five saves on the day.
