PHILADELPHIA - Temple softball coach Casey Dickson will be conducting instructional clinics this Saturday, November 11 and Sunday, November 12 at the Ambler Sports Complex. The two-day clinic will also feature coaching tips from Temple assistant coaches Ashley Moore and Lauren Nicholson, Temple softball players and Providence College assistant coach Caryn Haskins.
The instructional clinics, for ages 15-18 on Saturday and 10-14 on Sunday, will consist of hitting, fielding, catching, pitching, base-running and defensive situations with an emphasis on team preparation. This clinic will provide instruction on the specific softball needs to help the players become elite. While training will be similar to those of a team practice, the focus will be on all positions.
Dickson, in her first year at the helm of Temple softball, coached the Owls to a 22-23 overall mark and a 12-6 finish in the Atlantic 10. A four-year (1997-2000) standout at Oklahoma University, Dickson finished her intercollegiate career atop the list of several offensive categories including homeruns (27), RBI (166), total bases (337) and walks (118).
Moore joins the Temple coaching staff following a record-setting career at Auburn University (1999-2002), five seasons as an assistant at her alma mater and South Carolina, and one season with the professional New England Riptide. The two-time all-SEC selection completed her Tiger career as the all-time leader in hits (261), runs (171), doubles (58), games started (244) and total bases (445).
Nicholson, a four-year (2003-2006) pitcher at the University of Maryland - Baltimore County, is in her first season with the Owls. Nicholson completed her UMBC career as the all-time leader in wins (57), saves (5), innings pitched (620.2), games started (94), complete games (68) and appearances (116).
Haskins, a four-year (1999-2002) pitcher at the University of Connecticut, finished her Huskies career ranked seventh all-time in appearances (76) and with the most appearances by a freshman hurler.
An RSVP for the clinic is required and should be sent to Coach Dickson at cdickson@temple.edu. The cost of the instructional clinic is $100.
