PHILADELPHIA - Temple University senior Yuri Kurashima and freshman Radka Ferancova are ranked 14th in the ITA East Region final fall doubles rankings released on December 8. Kurashima, a 2006 First Team All-Atlantic 10 Conference selection, is ranked 24th individually, the highest ranking for an A-10 player.
"Yuri and Radka had a strong fall season and the ranking is a reflection of their hard work," said third-year Temple head coach Traci Green. "We are looking for good things from these two players, as well as the rest of our team, in the spring season."
Ferancova and Kurashima teamed for a 6-3 doubles mark in the fall campaign. The Owl duo advanced to the finals at both the Newport News Invitational and the ITA Regional Championships. The two are the second highest A-10 pair in the regional rankings and Ferancova, a native of Lucenec, Slovakia, is the only freshman to garner a regional ranking.
Kurashima, who compiled a 19-10 record in 2005-06, posted an 11-4 record in singles play in the fall. The Tokyo native won the consolation championship at the Cissie Leary Invitational on September 24. Ferancova was 7-1 in singles during the fall.
