TAMPA, FL - Coming off its appearance at the USF/Best Western Invitational, Jacksonville invoked the eight-run rule in defeating Temple, 9-1, in five innings in Owls' third game at the USF Wilson Invitational.
With doubles from freshmen Danielle Fagan and Courtney Norene, the Owls managed to score their lone run in the bottom of the second. Fagan first drilled a double to center field. Dolphin pitcher Shannon Jensen walked junior Brandie Mora. Amanda Carver then struck out swinging. Freshman Courtney Norene took the plate and hammered the ball deep to center, scoring Fagan.
Starting pitcher Jennifer Nacianceno was charged with the loss. In one and two-thirds innings on the mound Nacianceno allowed five hits, seven runs, and stuck out one batter. Freshman reliever Katie Burdeaux pitched three and one-third innings, allowing no hits and striking out two batters.
