BETHLEHEM, PA -- The Temple women's tennis team opened the spring portion of its season in grand fashion, defeating both Lehigh and Towson by identical 6-1 scores Sunday at Lehigh's Lewis Tennis Center.  The Owls, under the direction of second year head coach Traci Green, are now 4-0 on the 2005-06 campaign.

"It was a great way to open the spring," said Green.  "Ana and Barbara played exceptionally well, especially in the Towson win against some tough competition."

The Owls opened the day against the host Mountain Hawks by taking the doubles point with wins in two of three doubles contests.  Senior Ana Maslesa and junior Yuri Kurashima won at the number slot, 8-4 while junior Sharanya Pattabi and freshman Felicia Frazier posted the same score in their win at third doubles.

In the singles matches, Maslesa bested a game Gwen Dwyer at first singles, 6-4, 7-5.  Kurashima and Barbara Oria Boer had an easier time their second and third singles matches, winning 6-0, 6-3 and 6-0, 6-2, respectively.  Eva Marsalkova was the lone Owl to fall at singles on the day, dropping her fourth singles match to Allie Schwartz, 6-2, 6-1.  Frazier and Pattabi closed out the match by winning their fifth and sixth matches in straight sets.

The Towson match proved to be the same result with Maslesa, Kurashima, Oria, Frazier and Pattabi all posting singles wins.  Maslesa and Oria Boer had to go to a super tie-breaker.  Maslesa fought back after losing her first set, 6-1, to post a 7-5 victory in the second set and a 10-4 tibe-breaker win.  Oria Boer lost her first set 7-5, only to rebound with 6-3 in the second and eke out an 11-9 tie-breaker win.

Frazier and Pattabi each moved up a singles position due to Marsalkova having to default her fourth position.

The Owls next play at Penn on Tuesday (3:00 p.m.).
