#19 WOMEN'S LACROSSE DROPS GAME, 14-6, AT CROSS TOWN RIVAL PENN

PHILADELPHIA- The Penn Quakers (1-0) outscored the #19 Temple Owls (0-3), 7-1 in the second half to take down the Owls, 14-6, on Wednesday night on a very cold Franklin Field.
Nicole Cataldo scored three goals to lead Temple, while Johna Capaldo and Allison Frengs each contributed one goal and two assists. Casey Cech also netted a goal on the night. Sophomore goalie Caitlin Gregory saved eight of the 30 total shots that she faced.
Rachel Manson earned three goals to lead the Quakers, all of which came in the second stanza.
Penn struck early in the game to take a 2-0 lead but Cech got the Owls on the board just a minute later after taking a pass from Capaldo. The run was shortlived however, as the Quakers rattled off two more to take a 4-1 lead with a little under 19 minutes remaining. Frengs netted a goal and assisted on Temple's next to make it a one goal game (4-3) yet again at 14:51 but Penn found the back of the net three more times to make it 7-3 with just under eight minutes to go. Cataldo and Capaldo scored back-to-back goals to end the half and get Temple within two goals (7-5) at the break.
The Quakers went on a scoring spree in the second stanza, netting seven goals, including two in the final 30 seconds, to put the game well out of reach of Temple's hands.
Penn outshot Temple 30-13 and had a 12-5 advantage in groundballs. Temple did manage to grab 12 draw controls to Penn's 10 but the 23 turnovers committed proved to be the deciding factor in the game.
The Owls next travel to Orlando, Florida, where they will take on the UConn Huskies on Tuesday, March 7 at 3:30 p.m.
