CLEARWATER, FL -- Winning pitcher Katie Burdeaux went 3-for-4 with a pair of singles and a double run to lead Temple past Buffalo, 7-3, on Thursday afternoon at the USF Adidas Tournament. Burdeaux, who pitched the Owls' best game of the season, allowed only seven hits and three runs in seven innings of play. Freshman Danielle Fagan scored two runs and went 1-for-4. The Cherry and White improves to 1-1 in the USF ADIDAS Tournament and 3-9 overall.
The Owls opened the scoring in the first when junior Jessica Rohn scored off of a single by Burdeaux. Fagan scored the second run of the inning off of a fielder's choice from senior Lauren Evans. Jessica Weckenman, Fagan, and Adrienne Repsher scored three more runs in the second. Buffalo was unable to get on the board until the seventh inning when Erin Zilka scored a homerun and brought Kim Mazlian home.
Temple has its most difficult day of tournament competition on Friday. The Owls face the #2 Tennessee Lady Volunteers Friday at 11:00 am. The Vols have nine shutouts out of fifteen games played this season. In their most recent game against Buffalo, the Vols' Megan Rhodes pitched a one-hitter with nine strike outs.
Temple will also have a rematch against Hofstra Friday at 4:00 pm. Their last meeting at the USF Wilson Tournament resulted in the Pride shutting out The Owls 10-0.
