TAMPA, Fla. -- The Temple softball team dropped two games today at the ADIDAS Tournament.  The Owls were shut out by the No. 2 ranked Tennessee Lady Volunteers 14-0 in the morning. In their afternoon game, Temple next took on Hofstra, who won 6-4. Despite the loss against the Pride, the Owls made tremendous improvements since the two teams last met several weeks ago.

The Owls held their own against the Pride, totally stifling the team in the first inning. Freshman Nicole Lee registered the first hit of the game, singling up the middle. Hofstra erupted in the second, scoring three runs off of 2 hits. Temple responded with a run. After junior Adrienne Repsher walked, Brandie Mora reached first on a fielder's choice.  Amanda Carver singled to right field, sending Mora to third and setting her up for the run. Jessica Rohn reached first on a throwing error by Pride shortstop Laura Sweeny, sending Mora home. Hofstra scored two more in the third.

The Owls erupted in the third, scoring three runs. Lee scored an earned run off of a single up the middle by sophomore Brittany Burks. Freshman Danielle Fagan singled up the left in the play. Both Fagan and Burks scored on a throwing error. The Owls kept the Pride off of the board until the sixth when Sweeny scored an unearned run after singling and then stealing second. She scored on a fielding error.

The Cherry and White had seven hits against the Pride, an enormous improvement from their last meeting, when Hofstra held the Owls to a no-hitter. Temple only committed two errors as compared to Hofsta's three.

The Owls next meet NC State to finish their tenure at the ADIDAS tournament. Game time is set for 1:00 pm.
