TAMPA, FL -- Temple softball split two games at the USF ADIDAS Tournament on Saturday.  The Owls were shut out by NC State, 7-0, in their morning game.  Temple erupted in the fifth inning of their afternoon match, shutting out Wright State, 8-0.

Freshman Courtney Norene's first homer, a three-run blast, keyed a four-run fifth for the Owls. Freshman Jessica Weckenman opened the frame by being hit by a pitch. Jessica Rohn sacrificed her with Weckenman reaching third on a wild pitch. Freshman Danielle Fagan earned a walk and Weckenman came home on an error by the catcher. Fagan then stole second and advanced to third on a wild pitch. Sophomore Kelly Swartwood followed with a walk to set the table for Norene.

Temple scored four more runs in the sixth to end the game by the eight-run rule. Junior Brandie Mora singled up the middle and stole second. Brittany Burks then walked.  Weckenman moved both runners via a sacrifice. Rohn walked to load the bases. Fagan then roped a three-run double, sending Rohn, Burks and Mora home. Fagan scored the game-ending run off a throwing error.

Ashleigh Porter picked up her first win of her career, allowing just three hits while striking out two.

In the NC State game, the Wolfpack (19-10) limited the Owls to just four hits with Rohn's double being the lone extra base knock.  Katie Burdeaux (2-3) was charged with the loss, allowing five runs (two earned) over 2 1/3 innings of work. Jennifer Nacianceno allowed just one earned run over the final 4 2/3 innings.

The Owls (4-12) will next take on either Villanova or Central Michigan on Sunday at 9:30 am.
