LACROSSE DROPS BROWN FOR SECOND STRAIGHT WIN

PHILADELPHIA -- Head Coach Jenny Ulehla's Temple Owls captured their second win on the young 2006 campaign Friday afternoon at Geasey Field.  The 16-11 victory over Brown was spearheaded by junior attacker Johna Capaldo's career-high six goal performance.  With the win, Temple comes to within one game of the .500 plateau at 2-3, while Brown falls to 2-2.

The Temple offense exploded early in scoring eight of the game's first nine goals within 12 minutes of play.  The lead was pushed to an 8-1 Owls' advantage due in large part to Capaldo -- recording two of her six goals during this stretch -- and senior Patty Glavin's hat-trick.  The hosts offensively paced the opening stanza and entered the intermission leading 10-5 following Capaldo's third tally.

The Bears wouldn't get any closer than four goals in the second half following freshman Bethany Buzzell's second tally and senior Kate Stanley third goal -- cutting the lead to 12-8.  Ulehla's troops responded to a timeout at the 23 minute mark and pushed the lead back to six with two goals from senior Corey Leader and junior Casey Cech.  Cech, an Atlantic 10 conference tournament team member from a year ago, dished a career-high five assists and tallied two goals in the winning effort.

Brown junior Amie Biros would deposit three goals in the final 12 minutes, but not to be outdone, Capaldo cashed in her on sixth and final with just over three minutes remaining.

Temple also received offensive support from seniors Corey Leader (two goals), Nicole Cataldo (two goals), and junior Allison Frengs (one goal and two assists).  Sophomores Mimi DeTolla, Justine Lupo, and freshman Noelle DiGioia also chipped in for the Bears with one goal apiece.

Owls sophomore goalkeeper Caitlin Gregory posted six saves while Bears reserve sophomore Melissa King saved ten shots.

The Owls will resume action Tuesday afternoon at 4:00 p.m. against the visiting Nittany Lions of Penn State.
