PHILADELPHIA -- Temple University junior Yuri Kurashima has been named the Atlantic 10 Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Week for the week ending Sunday, March 19. Kurashima led the Owls to a 2-1 record for the week, posting a perfect 3-0 record at #1 singles and 1-0 at first doubles.
Kurashima, a native of Tokyo, opened the week by defeating Duquesne's Johanna Bezjak, 6-1, 6-2. She then teamed with sophomore Sharanya Pattabi for an 8-6 win at first doubles. The Owls, however, dropped their match with the Dukes by the score of 4-3 on March 18.
Owning a 7-2 record since moving up to number one singles following an injury to all-conference performer Ana Maslesa, Kurashima followed her effort against Duquesne with consecutive singles wins against Providence and host St. Peter's on Sunday. She defeated Jennifer Daigle of Providence, 6-1, 6-0 and Angela Wiggs of St. Peter's, 6-0, 6-2. She has now won six consecutive matches at first singles. She has an overall singles mark of 15-8.
