SOFTBALL FALTERS IN HOME OPENER

AMBLER, PA -- Coming off of an 8-4 win against Penn at their Third Annual Bash at the Beach Tournament, the Delaware State Hornets invoked the eight-run rule, defeating the Temple Owls, 9-1, in five innings spoiling the home debut of first-year head coach Casey Dickson. This game marked the first time
Junior Jessica Rohn, who batted 2-2 logging a single and a double, scored the Owls' lone run in the bottom of the fourth. After singling to left field, Rohn moved to second off on error by the DSU shortstop on a ball hit by senior Lauren Evans. Both Rohn and Evans advanmoved up a base courtesy of a wild pitch. Freshman Danielle Fagan then singled, driving in Rohn.
Starting pitcher Ashleigh Porter was charged with the loss. In two and two-thirds innings on the mound Porter allowed five hits, two runs and recorded two strikeouts. Freshman reliever Katie Burdeaux pitched two and one-third innings and allowed seven runs on nine hits.
The Owls, 4-13, next take on Atlantic 10 newcomer, Saint Louis on Friday, March 24 in a doubleheader (2:00 PM). It is the conference opener for both squads.
