TEMPLE SWEEPS SAINT FRANCIS (NY) IN DOUBLEHEADER

AMBLER, PA -- Temple softball improved its record to 7-14, sweeping a doubleheader against Saint Francis (NY), 6-1, 9-1, at Ambler Field on Thursday afternoon. The Owls scored six runs on11 hits in the first game while the Terriers had one run on three hits. Freshman pitcher Katie Burdeaux earned the win. The second game ended in the sixth inning when sophomore Brittany Burks hit a two-run homer, blasting the ball over the center field fence. That made it 9-1, thus ending the game due to the eight-run rule.
In her first at-bat, freshman Danielle Fagan homered to left field. Junior Jessica Rohn scored two runs and had one hit in four at-bats. After singling in the third inning, Rohn stole both second and third base. Senior Lauren Evans brought her home with a single.
The Terriers were unable to get on the board until the fourth inning when third baseman Amanda Devan walked. A sacrifice bunt from Natasha Kirkland advanced her to second then Sarah Purtle followed with a RBI double.
The Cherry and White responded with a run in the fifth. Evans reached on an error by second baseman Kimberly Procida. She advanced to third on a fielder's choice with Fagan driving her home with a single for her second RBI of the game.
The Owls scored two runs in the seventh. Rohn reached on an error. She advanced to third off of a fielder's choice and was brought home by an Evans single . Sophomore Kelly Swartwood entered the game to pinch run for freshman catcher Courtney Norene who singled. Swartwood stole second. Junior Adrienne Repsher drove her home with an RBI single.
The Cherry and White pounded the Terriers in the nightcap, scoring a run in nearly every inning. Evans had a two-run homer in the first inning, bringing home Burks who got on base by an error from Procida. Temple got back on the board in the second when junior Brandie Mora, who was 3-for-3 at the plate with two runs, was driven home by freshman Nicole Lee's RBI single.
The Owls scored four in the third inning. Evans singled. Junior catcher Makeala Compton put her in scoring position, doubling to left field. Fagan drove her home on groundout to second.
