SOFTBALL'S WINNING STREAK ENDS AT SAINT FRANCIS

4.11.06 | Softball

LORETTO, PA -- Temple softball ended its four-game win streak at Saint Francis University today, losing 5-4 at the Stokes Softball Complex in a non-conference match up. The Red Flash scored four runs in the second, holding a lead of 4-0 until the fourth inning when freshman Danielle Fagan got on the board, scoring an unearned run. The loss drops the Owls to 11-17 for the season, and 4-2 in the Atlantic 10.

Saint Francis opened up the game's scoring in the first inning, when junior Richele Hall knocked the ball out of the park at center field.  The Red Flash kept the pressure on in the second, logging four more runs, the first of which resulted from three singles and a walk. SFU senior Kate Lancaster delivered a bases-clearing double to plate there runs, including the game-winner.

The Owls were unable to respond until the fourth inning when Fagan reached on a fielders choice, moved forward on senior Lauren Evan's single and scored off of an error by second baseman Vickey Greenough. The Cherry and White had a burst of energy in the sixth inning when freshman Courtney Norene and junior Adrienne Repsher scored back-to-back homeruns. Owl junior Jessica Rohn closed out the games scoring, blasting a homer to left field. Temple was unable to overcome the Red Flash despite their vigor in the last few innings. The Cherry and White out-hit the Red Flash, 10-7, in the meeting. Freshman pitcher Ashleigh Porter earned the loss for the Owls.

The Owls continue their road trip to Rhode Island and Massachusetts this weekend. Their next home game is scheduled for April 21 against George Washington.
