CECH'S SEVEN POINT PERFORMANCE LEADS TEMPLE PAST ST. JOE'S, 16-9

PHILADELPHIA- Casey Cech scored three goals and assisted on four others to lead the Temple Owls to a resounding 16-9 win over cross-town rival Saint Joseph's on Saturday afternoon at Geasey Field. With the win, Temple evens its record at 6-6 and improves to 2-1 in A-10 play, while the Hawks fall to 4-7 overall and 1-3 in the Conference.
Corey Leader, Allison Frengs and Nicole Cataldo all scored three goals a piece for Temple, while Berkley Summerlin had two. Johna Capaldo netted one and Brittney Hoffman, assisted by Leader, earned her first collegiate goal. Whitney Richards dished three assists on the day.
The Owls jumped out to a 3-0 lead, with goals by Frengs, Leader and Cataldo. Kristina Jaggers finally got the Hawks on the board with an unassisted goal at 23:56 to make it 3-1 but Richards fed Cech right in front of the goal just two minutes later to make it 4-1 Temple. Jaggers scored the Hawks' next two goals to keep it close but the Owls were able to answer after every SJU tally and take a 8-5 lead going into the half. Kerry O'Connell struck first in the second half to cut the gap to just two goals but the Owls went on a seven goal run to take a 15-6 lead with just under seven minutes to go. O'Connell ended the TU scoring rout with an unassisted goal at 4:16 but Temple found the back of the net once more at 2:56 to make it 16-7. The Hawks scored two goals in the final two minutes but it was too late, as Temple won its second straight, 16-9.
Bridget McMullan started the contest and had two saves, while Caitlin Gregory earned five on the day.
Temple returns to action on April 19 when it travels to La Salle for a 4 p.m. contest.
