WOMEN'S LACROSSE IMPROVES TO 3-1 IN A-10 PLAY WITH 14-7 WIN OVER LA SALLE

PHILADELPHIA-Corey Leader scored four goals and dished one assist to lead the Temple women's lacrosse team to a 14-7 win over A-10 rival La Salle on Wednesday afternoon. With the win, the Owls improve to 3-1 in A-10 play and 7-6 overall while the Explorers fall to 1-4 in the Conference and 5-10 overall.
Johna Capaldo and Allison Frengs each had three goals and two assists. Nicole Caniglia chipped in with two goals and Berkley Summerlin and Casey Cech had one goal a piece. Whitney Richards dished two assists, while Cech, Leader and Whitney Richards all had one.
The Owls jumped out to an early 6-1 lead, scoring the game's first two goals and then going on a four-goal scoring run. Temple continued to stay strong offensively and took a 8-3 lead into the locker room.
Leader notched the first goal of the second half to make it 9-3, allowing Temple to keep on rolling take a 12-4 lead with a little over 15 minutes to go. The Explorers scored back to back goals within a minute span but Leader responded with back to back goals to make it 14-6 at 3:57. Nicole Sunderland added one more tally for the Explorers at 2:01 but it was too late, as Temple rolled to its second straight win, 14-7.
Caitlin Gregory earned seven saves on 17 shots in goal and a team-high five groundballs, while Bridget McMullan had one.
Temple returns to action on Sunday when it travels to UMass for a 1 p.m. game.
