SOFTBALL SPLITS DOUBLEHEADER WITH ATLANTIC 10 RIVAL ST. BONAVENTURE

AMBLER, PA -- The Temple Owls split a doubleheader against the St. Bonaventure Bonnies at Ambler Field on Sunday afternoon. The Bonnies took the first game, 9-1, while the Cherry and White shut out SBU in the nightcap, 6-0.
The Owls were first to get on the board. Junior Jessica Rohn walked and advanced to third on an error by Bonnie shortstop Joelle Brunetto. Junior Adrienne Respher drove her home for a sacrifice fly, making it 1-0.
The Bonnies hit the first of four homeruns in the opener, a two-run blast by Trisha McKeon, in the top of the second to take the lead, 2-1. Caitlin Grattan belted a three-run home in the top of the fifth, scoring Kristen Brunetto and Anna Nagro. Brianna Bricker added a solo homer in the sixth while Grattan hit her second of the game, a two-run shot in the seventh. Freshman pitcher Katie Burdeaux (3-7) allowed three runs in the first inning before leaving the game. Sophomore Jennifer Nacianceno pitched 4 2/3 innings of relief allowing three hits and three earned runs.
The Owls turned it around in the nitecap, with Nacianceno tossing a one hitter. Burdeaux, the designated player, led off the second with a single to left center. Danielle Fagan was then hit by a pitch. Courtney Norene, who had two hits in the game, drove Burdeaux home with a single to center. Sophomore Amanda Carver singled to drive Fagan home, making it 2-0.
The Cherry and White added three runs in the fourth inning, with sophomore Brittany Burks providing the big hit, a two-run triple to right center scoring Rohn and Respher. Repsher drove in Carver, who had started the two-out rally with a single, with an RBI single.
Owl junior Brandie Mora scored the final run in the fifth inning. Mora singled to left field and stole second and third. Norene drove in her second run of the game with a single up the middle to score Mora.
Nacianceno, who improved to 3-7 on the season, retired the first nine Bonnies she faced. Sophomore Andrea Swanger broke up her no-hit bid with a two-out single in the fifth inning. The Owl hurler struck out eight in the game, walking two.
