AMBLER, PA- Temple softball is one step closer to competing in the Atlantic 10 tournament after sweeping a doubleheader against A-10 rival George Washington Friday afternoon at Ambler Field. The wins improve Temple to 15-21 for the season and 8-4 in the A-10 Conference.

The Owls opened the scoring in the first inning when junior Makeala Compton tripled, sending home freshman designated player Katie Burdeaux. The Colonials struck back in the third with Hilary King blasting a homer to center field to tie the game. The Owls responded in their next at-bat, scoring one run to retake the lead.  Junior Jessica Rohn singled and advanced to second off a sacrifice bunt courtesy of  sophomore Brittany Burks. A Compton double drove in Rohn and made it 2-1.

Compton slammed the ball into the scoreboard for a two-run homer.  Freshman pitcher Ashleigh Porter was credited with the win, her third of the season.

The second game of the twinbill was just as exciting. The Cherry and White got on the board in the second inning. Freshman Danielle Fagan singled and advanced to second off a GW error. After stealing third, Fagan came home on an RBI groundout by freshman Courtney Norene.

The Owls scored three runs in the third. Rohn singled and advanced to second off a Burdeaux sacrifice. Compton singled, sending Rohn home and logging her fifth RBI of the day. Compton got caught at the losing end of a fielder's choice off Fagan's next at-bat and was tagged out at second. A single from junior Adrienne Repsher moved Fagan to second. Norene then singled to center, sending Fagan home and Repsher to third. A single by sophomore second baseman Amanda Carver brought Respher home for the third run of the inning.

The Colonials were unable to get on the board until the fifth. Janelle Parker entered to pinch run for Colleen Kegler who singled to left. Parker stole second and advanced to third off a grounder by Maryanne Mohan. A double by Meyers brought Parker home for GW's first run. King walked and Jackie Yahniga reached on an error to load the bases. A Howe single brought King and Meyers home, making it 4-3 in favor of the Owls.

Temple responded to George Washington's fifth inning surge with one of their own in the sixth. Freshman designated player Nikki Lee singled and advanced on an error. A Rohn double drove her home, providing some insurance for the Owls. Porter walked. Fagan doubled sending home both Rohn and Porter. Burdeaux was credited with the win, her sixth of the season.
