EAST NORRITON, PA -- Temple softball downed Atlantic 10 and crosstown rival Saint Joseph's, 2-1, 12-0 in a doubleheader at East Norriton Field. The pair of wins improves the Owls to 18-21 for the season and 10-4 in the Atlantic 10 Conference.

Freshman Danielle Fagan had a strong showing in game one of the twinbill, accounting for all of the Owls hits on two solo homers. The scoring opened in the second inning, when Fagan blasted the ball over the center field fence . The Hawks got on the board in the sixth, when a single from Carly Kinkler sent Kate Falsaca home. Fagan got the Owls back on the board in the seventh, again going deep to center for her second homer of the contest. Freshman pitcher Katie Burdeaux was credited with the win. Saint Joseph's Lauren Cognigni was touched for the loss.

Temple exploded in game two, scoring 12 runs in four inning to invoke the eight-run rule, ending the game after five. Sophomore Brittany Burks kicked off the scoring in the first inning. After singling to left, Burks stole second. A single to right center from junior Makeala Compton brought Burks home for what proved to be the game winning run. Cognigni then walked Fagan, advancing Compton to second. Junior Brandie Mora entered the game to pinch run for Compton. A double courtesy of junior Adrienne Respher would send both Mora and Fagan home and close out the first inning scoring.

The Owls came right back in the second when freshman Courtney Norene sent the ball sailing over left center for the day's third homer. Junior Jessica Rohn was walked. A single from Burdeaux moved her to second. An Cognigni allowed Mora to reach first with Burdeuax moving to second and Rohn coming home. A left field single from Fagan helped Burdeaux find the plate for the third and final run of the inning.

The Cherry and White scored two more quick runs in the third. Cognigni walked sophomore Amanda Carver in the Owls' first at-bat of the inning. Carver stole second and advanced to third off a sacrifice bunt by Norene. An RBI single by Burks, one of three his for her in the game, plated both runners.

Despite Saint Joseph's pitching change in the fourth, TU had its strongest inning of the contest, scoring five runs. Burdeuax singled to left center and moved to second when Mora was hit by a pitch. Fagan reached first on a fielder's choice while Burdeaux and Mora advanced. Saint Joseph's Lauren Hughes walked Carver, scoring Burdeaux.  Freshman Nikki Lee's pinch single drove in both Mora and Fagan.  Senior Lauren Evans tripled to score Lee with a Burks single to center, sending Evans home for the final run of the game.

The Owls next take on Atlantic 10 rival La Salle in a doubleheader at Ambler Field on Sunday. Senior Day will be observed in between the games, the first of which starts at 12:00 PM.
