5.1.06 | Softball
PHILADELPHIA -- Freshman shortstop Danielle Fagan, who broke Temple's single season record for home runs, has been named the Owlsports.com Athlete of the Month for April. Fagan compiled a .350 batting average for the month (21-of-60) with five doubles, six home runs, 13 runs scored and 17 RBI. She has helped Temple post a 13-6 record for the month.
The Lester, Pa. native (Interboro HS) broke Temple Hall of Famer and Olympic Gold Medalist Dionna Harris' single season mark of six set in 1989 and 1990 and later tied by Bari Lynn Pflueger in 2002. Her historic seventh round-tripper proved to be the game-winner in a 2-1 win over Saint Joseph's on April 26. Fagan homered twice in that contest, accounting for all of the Owl runs, and hits (2), in the game.
Fagan also hit home runs against Penn, in a 7-6 win on April 4, at Rhode Island, in a 6-1 win on April 13, at Rider, in an 11-7 win on April 25, and on Senior Day against La Salle (April 30), belting the game-winner in a 5-4 victory.
For the year, Fagan, who has started 40 of 41 games in her rookie season, leads the Owls in virtually every major offensive category, including batting average (.339), runs scored (24), doubles (9), home runs (8), RBI (28) and slugging (.634). Her 28 RBI ties her with Pflueger for fifth on the Temple single season list.
