AMBLER, PA -- The Temple softball team extended its winning streak to nine games with a sweep of visiting Villanova Wildcats, 4-3 and 2-1, in its final home games of the regular season. With the wins, the Cherry and White pushes its record above .500, at 22-21, for the first time this season. The nine-game win streak is the longest since an 11-gamer in 2002.

Freshman pitcher Katie Burdeaux kicked off the day's scoring, belting a solo homer to put Temple ahead 1-0 in the bottom of the second inning.

The Wildcats took the lead in the top of the third when catcher Cassie Koenig answered with a two-run homer to left. Nova made it 3-1 in the seventh when a single from Meghan Morese sent Sheri Donley home.

The Owls fought back to tie it in the seventh. Junior Adrienne Repsher doubled to center and advanced to third on an Amanda Carver sacrifice bunt. Freshman Courtney Norene singled to drive  in Repsher, making it 3-2. Sophomore Brittany Burks doubled to drive in Norene, tying the game at 3-3.

Junior Makeala Compton homered off the scoreboard in the bottom of the eighth to lift the Owls to the 4-3 win. Burdeaux pitched the complete game, allowing six hits to earn her 10th win of the season.

Fagan drove in Burks on a sacrifice fly in the first inning of the nightcap to give TU a quick 1-0 lead.   The Wildcats tied it in the third inning, scoring an unearned run on a Fagan error at short.

The Cherry and White responded in their next at-bat. Junior Brandie Mora reached on a hit-by-pitch. Compton singled to left, pushing Mora to second. Mora advanced to third on a Fagan single, loading the bases. Respher then lofted a sacrifice fly, scoring Mora with the game-winning run.  Owl pitcher Ashleigh Porter was credited with the win, evening her record at 6-6.

The Owls travel down south to take on Atlantic 10 newcomer Charlotte  in a doubleheader Friday. The Owls, currently ranked third in the Atlantic 10 standings, secure a berth in the A-10 Tournament with a win over the 49ers.  A swep would move them past Charlotte and into second place in the A-10.
