WASHINGTON, DC - For the eighth consecutive season the Temple women's lacrosse team enters the Atlantic 10 Conference tournament Friday afternoon as the #2 seed against #3 St. Bonaventure. The winner of this game will take on the winner of the Richmond/Massachusetts game on Sunday at 1 p.m. The Tournament is being hosted by George Washington at the Mount Vernon Sports Complex.
The Owls enter the tournament with five wins in their last six games. Temple fell 12-11 to Duquesne in a hard fought match to end the regular season. Temple is paced offensively by Corey Leader (30G, 9A), Casey Cech (28G, 14A), Allison Frengs (28G, 15A) and Whitney Richards (16G, 22A). Richards' 22 assists is ranked fifth on Temple's all-time list for assists in a season. Berkley Summerlin (17 CT), Lindsay Wells (14 CT) and Hillary Richards (12 CT, 31 DC) have all been strong defensive performers for Temple.
The Owls tied St. Bonventure at 5-2 in league play but defeated the Bonnies, 19-9, during the regular season to take the second seed. The Bonnies have made two Championship appearances (2004, 2003) but are looking for their first tournament win. St. Bonaventure opened the year with a school record 12-game winning streak and earned the program's first national ranking at No. 18 by the IWLA. They are led by Katelyn Faas (53 g, 13 a) and Brenna Houghton (15 g, 39 a)
Last Meeting: Temple and the Bonnies met just last weekend, with the Owls taking down St. Bonaventure, 19-9, thanks to five goals from Allison Frengs and four goals, three assists from Corey Leader and Whitney Richards.
In the A-10 Tourney: The Owls are 10-3 all-time in Conference Tournament play, taking home four of the last five Atlantic 10 Championships
