NEW YORK- Candice Dupree has been selected to represent the WNBA's Chicago Sky in the 2006 All-Star Game, which will be held Wednesday, July 12 at 7:30 p.m. in New York's Madison Square Garden. Dupree was named to the Eastern Conference All-Stars as an injury replacement, announced yesterday by WNBA President Donna Orender. The game can be seen live on ESPN.
Dupree, the sixth pick in the WNBA draft this past April, becomes the fourth rookie named to the squad. The Temple University product is leading the Sky in scoring and rebounds, averaging 13.4 points and 5.7 boards per game. She also tops the Chicago roster in terms of minutes played, averaging 31.2 per outing.
"This is quite an honor," Dupree said Monday. "To be a rookie and to play on an All-Star team is a dream come true."
This will be the second match-up between Dupree and Head Coach Dawn Staley, who was selected as a starter for the Western Conference All-Star squad. On June 2, Staley's Comets were victorious in a 71-60 outing. The two will meet in Chicago just two days later on July 14.
