7.12.06 | Football

PHILADELPHIA -- The Temple University Department of Intercollegiate Athletics today annnounced a four game football scheduling agreement with the University of Connecticut.  The Owls will host the Huskies at Lincoln Financial Field in 2008 and 2010, and will travel to East Hartford's Rentschler Field in 2007 and 2013.

"We are very excited to add yet another program from the Northeast region to our future non-conference schedules," said Temple Head Coach Al Golden.  "With a full Mid-American Conference slate to begin in 2007, we are actively pursuing non-league opponents that reside within our recruiting footprint, which stretches north to Boston, west to Pittsburgh and south to Virginia.  As a result of this scheduling initiative, friends and families of Owl Nation will have ample opportunity to be in attendance to support the Cherry & White."

The Owls have already announced regional scheduling agreements with Penn State, Army and Navy.  Temple travels to State College, Pa. in 2006 (Nov. 11) and 2009 and hosts the Nittany Lions in 2007.  The Owls take flight for West Point, N.Y. in 2008 and 2012 and welcome the Black Knights to Lincoln Financial Field in 2009 and 2011.  The Owls travel to Annapolis, Md. in 2006 (Nov. 18), before hosting the Midshipmen in 2007 and 2009.

Temple and Connecticut have met nine times on the gridiron in a series that dates back to 1963, with the Owls holding a 7-2 advantage in victories.

Temple's 2006 football campaign begins on Thursday evening, August 31, at Buffalo. The Owls then host Louisville in their home opener at Lincoln Financial Field on Saturday, September 9. TU is slated to hold its first preseason practice on Friday, August 4.
