PHILADELPHIA -- Redshirt senior offensive tackle Elliot Seifert has been named a first team preseason all-independent choice by both CollegeFootballNews.com and Phil Steele's College Football Preview.  The Reading, Pa., native, who was also ranked as the 45th best OT in the nation by Phil Steele's, was joined on the preseason honors list by fellow seniors Chris Page and Ryan Gore, as well as redshirt sophomore Travis Shelton and redshirt freshman Jake Brownell.

Seifert is a graduate student working toward a master's in biology who earned an undergraduate degree in biology this past May.  He was honored as the team's scholar-athlete award winner by the Philadelphia Chapter of the National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame on May 10.  A very active participant in the team's Owl Outreach program dedicated to community service, he is a two-time (2003, 2004) Big East All-Academic team honoree.  Seifert started all 10 games he played at right tackle in 2005 after started all 11 games at RT as a third-year sophomore in 2004.

Page was named first and second team all-independent by CollegeFootballNews.com and Phil Steele's, respectively. The second-year senior made the switch from corner to safety this past spring. He played in eight games as a first-year junior in 2005, making seven starts and had 40 tackles (28 solo), one FF, one FR, one INT and one PBU.

Gore, Brownell and Shelton all earned second team all-independent accolades from Phil Steele's.  Gore is one of three, three-year letterwinners (Jamel Harris, Seifert) on the roster and one of two returning starters (Page) on defense.  The Philadelphia native played in all 11 games, making 10 starts as a fourth-year junior last season and made 60 tackles (26 solo), two TFLs and one QBH at linebacker.  Brownell, a punter, transferred to Temple from Navy in the fall of last year.  A native of Thorofare, N.J., he accumulated 247 career kicking points at West Deptford (N.J.) High School, two shy of the state record.  Shelton was redshirted in 2005 after playing in seven games as a true freshman. The speedster wide receiver made four receptions for 77 yards returned 13 kickoffs for 265 yards (20.4 avg.) in 2004.
