PHILADELPHIA - The Indianapolis Colts have signed former Temple quarterback Mike McGann to a rookie, free-agent contract.  The Havertown, Pa. native, who becomes the 11th former Owl on an NFL roster, concluded his Temple career with 5.967 passing yards to rank second on the school's all-time list.

 

McGann played in 40 games (34 starts) in Cherry & White from 2001-05, completing 512 of 1,040  passes for 25 touchdowns.  He played in eight games (seven starts) as a true freshman in 2001 before concluding his collegiate career this past fall by throwing for 1,469 yards and three scores in 11 games (8 starts) as a fifth-year senior. His most productive season came as a sophomore in 2002, when he started all 12 games and completed 173 of 353 passes for 1,994 yards and 13 TDs.  During the campaign he was named the Big East Conference Offensive Player of the Week after completing 20 of 38 passes for 340 yards and two TDs in a 17-16 win over Syracuse at Veterans Stadium.

 

McGann joins former Temple teammate Raheem Brock (DE) on the Colts roster. Other Owls in the NFL are Antwon Burton (DT, Denver), Zamir Cobb (WR, Arizona), Lance Johnstone (DE, Oakland), Dan Klecko (DL, New England), Jason McKie (FB, Chicago), Alshermond Singleton (LB, Dallas), Terrence Stubbs (WR, Tampa Bay), Rian Wallace (LB, Pittsburgh) and Dave Yovanovits (OL, Cleveland).

 

Temple leads all Mid-American Conference schools in the number of former student-athletes on NFL rosters.
