WOMEN'S SOCCER FALLS 2-1 TO WRIGHT STATE IN EXHIBITION PLAY

AKRON, OH - Temple fell 2-1 to Wright State on Thursday evening in the opening round of the Westfield Insurance Cup hosted by the University of Akron. The Owls fell behind 2-0 early in the first half and were not able to rebound. Katherine Schmelz took a pass from Charisma Wright in the 70th minute and blasted a shot into the upper right hand corner.
Wright State got the scoring started in the sixth minute when after applying offensive pressure in the Owl end that resulted in a corner kick. Megan Mattioda took the corner kick for the Raiders and Katie Comisar sent a shot past the TU keeper and into the net to give WSU a 1-0 lead just 5:25 into the match.
The Raiders struck again in the 38th minute when Kristen Olsen struck from 30 yards out to give WSU a 2-0 lead. Olsen sent the long shot towards goal and over the outreached arms of Temple keeper Liz Tarasevich at the 37:05 mark.
The Owls will play the loser of the Akron/Cincinnati match on Saturday at 3 p.m. in the consolation match of the Westfield Cup.
